Epizootic ulcerative syndrome (EUS), also known as mycotic granulomatosis (MG) or red spot disease (RSD), is a disease caused by the water mould Aphanomyces invadans.

It infects many freshwater and brackish fish species.EUS occurs mostly during periods of low temperatures and after periods of heavy rainfall. These conditions favour sporulation of Aphanomyces invadans, and low temperatures have been shown to delay the inflammatory response of fish to fungal infection.

EUS is transmitted from one fish to another through the water supply.

The susceptible life stages of the fish are usually juvenile and young adults. There is no report of EUS being found in fish fry or fish larvae.

At first, fish develop red spots on the skin.

These lesions expand to form ulcers and extensive erosions filled with necrotic tissue and mycelium. This is followed by the development of granulomas on the internal organs and death.

A provisional diagnosis can be made by using squash preparations of the skeletal muscle from beneath an ulcer to identify the septate hyphae of the water mould.

Definitive diagnosis can be made based on histopathogical findings and isolation of the pathogen.EUS can be readily detected in diseased fish specimens collected from EUS-infected areas using histological techniques. When EUS spreads into a fish culture pond, high morbidity (>50%) and high mortality (>50%) might be observed.

Application: 

Mix the dosage quantity in a bucket of water, 

Pour in the tank near the fans to mix properly, 

Keep 2 hrs gap from feeding 

When Using any other medicine, please keep 3 hrs gap 

Below Dosage: 

The dosage is for the fish, 

but it can also be used in polyculture with shrimp 

- Age above 5 weeks - 35 days shrimp 

For 1 acre of fish / prawn shrimp farm tank -

 Use as below 

Use  1/2 kg  medicine, per acre of the tank 

2 times a day - at 12 hour intervals

Duration of usage:

Use for 7 days 

Dosage by tonnage: 

Alternatively use for every 2 tons of shrimp, 

1/2 kg medicine 

2 times a day, 

With a minimum of 1 kg medicine per acre every 24 hours

Preventative use: 

Can be used for prevention,

Use 1 kg medicine per acre for 3 days,

once in 2 weeks on prevention mode 

Other dosages (in polyculture):

Shrimp age -

 Or use 3 days for prevention 

1 - 15 days = 150 grams x 2 times a day 

15 - 30 days = 250 grams x 2 times a day 

Use 12 hrs gap between 2 applications, Use for 5-7 days
